JADED BLUE WORKWEAR JACKET

A timeless workwear-inspired jacket, individually hand dyed using natural indigo and symplocos.

This unique colourway is created through a combination of a botanical symplocos mordant and repeated immersions in a living indigo vat. The warm golden minerals naturally present within the symplocos subtly soften the indigo, creating a beautifully muted blue with gentle jade undertones and the appearance of a timeworn, well-loved garment.

Each piece is slowly dyed by hand in my Devon studio using traditional natural dye techniques. The colour develops gradually through repeated immersions and oxidation cycles, producing a depth and complexity that cannot be replicated by synthetic dyes.

Crafted from durable organic cotton and stitched with organic cotton thread, the jacket is designed as a practical everyday layer that celebrates traditional craft, natural colour and thoughtful making.

Inspired by classic utility jackets, it features a relaxed cropped silhouette, three-quarter length sleeves, a traditional collar and generous front patch pockets. The loose one-size fit layers beautifully over dresses, knitwear, shirts and simple everyday clothing.

Developed slowly over many months, this collection reflects an ongoing process of refining the pattern, fit, fabric and dye technique to create a garment designed to be worn, repaired and treasured for years.

THE COLOUR

This distinctive colourway is created by combining natural indigo with symplocos, a remarkable botanical plant rich in bioavailable aluminium. Used as a plant-based mordant, symplocos has been valued by textile traditions across Asia for centuries as a natural alternative to mineral salts.

Beneath the indigo, the warm golden tones of the symplocos subtly shift the blue towards soft jade hues, creating a gentle stonewashed character with the appearance of a garment that has aged gracefully over time. Rather than a flat, uniform blue, the cloth holds quiet variations of tone, depth and light that continue to evolve with wear.

CARE

Wash only when needed.

Cool hand wash or machine wash on a gentle cycle using a mild detergent.

Dry naturally.

Like all naturally dyed textiles, the colour will continue to soften and develop character over time, becoming part of the story of both the garment and its wearer.
